Where framing is irregular, cavities are closed, or air sealing is the real problem, we will steer you toward blown-in or spray foam instead. Installation Quality Is the Whole Game

A fiberglass batt only hits its rated R-value when it fills the cavity completely, without compression, gaps, or voids. We confirm the code requirement for your specific assembly during the quote so the install passes inspection.

Is fiberglass insulation good enough for a Minnesota basement?+

It can be, in the right assembly. Fiberglass handles the framed wall portion of a basement finish well, but concrete walls need a moisture-safe layer against them first, which is where closed-cell spray foam earns its place. Many of our basement projects combine foam against the foundation with batts in the stud wall.

Faced or unfaced batts, and which do I need?+

Faced batts carry a kraft paper vapor retarder on one side and go in with the facing toward the heated space in Minnesota. Unfaced batts suit assemblies where a separate vapor retarder is planned or one already exists. Doubling up vapor layers can trap moisture, so we match the batt type to the rest of the wall assembly.

Why do professionally installed batts perform better than DIY?+

Because fiberglass loses performance to compression, gaps, and voids, and those are exactly the mistakes that happen when batts get stuffed behind wires or cut short. A fitted installation splits batts around obstacles and fills each bay completely. The material cost is similar either way; the finished R-value usually is not.
